Museveni Orders All Political Aspirants in All Parties to Get Tested for Covid19

President Yoweri Museveni has directed the Ministry of Health to have all people contesting for political office tested for Covid19.

The directive targets all political aspirants and other leaders in all political parties and organizations in the country.

This development was revealed by Justine Kasule Lumumba, the Secretary General of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) while speaking to media this morning.

The Health Ministry according to Lumumba, will today Saturday send out letters to all political parties asking them to prepare for the testing exercise.

“Every registered political party and all the people that have come out to contest for office under that party; everybody that will be going out to interact with voters in this campaign period, will have to get tested,” Lumumba told Salt TV in an interview on Saturday.

The testing Lumumba says will be conducted every two weeks on these individual. They will also be sensitised on how to safely go about their political activities to avoid spreading the deadly virus.

“Remember that this disease doesn’t select its victims based on their political affiliation,” Lumumba said.

“Also the money that will be used in this exercise is taxpayer money.”

The development comes after Covid19 broke out at the offices of the ruling National Resistance Movement offices in Kampala this week.

When two cases were confirmed there just a day after Museveni visited the office, all workers there tested for the virus and the Secretariat was forced to make adjustments to strengthen the prevention measures.

Ministry of Health has also in the recent past conducted blanket testing for all members of parliament and cabinet members.

President Yoweri Museveni also tested for the virus after he suffered a soar throat.
