MP Niwagaba Donates His Shs 20Million to Non-Covid19 Projects

The Ndorwa East member of parliament Wilfred Niwagaba yesterday handed over the Shs 20m he received from parliament to the administration of the four sub counties in his constituency, to identify the most pressing projects they have and work on them.

Wilfred Niwagaba who is the shadow attorney general says that each of the sub counties of Maziba, Buhara, Kyanamira and Kaharo is to get Shs 5m and the management committees will identify the most pressing project to put the money on.

The MP handed out the money just hours before President Yoweri Museveni told legislators last night to hand this controversial money to their district Covid19 taskforces, and warned that the Auditor General would have to be called in if they spend it otherwise.

Niwagaba said even though he was against parliament passing the 10 billion shillings for the MPs, he couldn’t return the money because it would be “eaten by someone else in government anyway.”

He added that the reason he didn’t specify how the 20million should be used, is because different sub counties have different needs.

Johnson Baguma, the Buhara sub county district councillor said all the stakeholders in the sub county are to be called to decide what the money will be used for.
