5 Supreme Court Judges Appointed to Hear Appeal Against Buganda Land Board
A panel of 5 Supreme Court judges have been assigned to hear an appeal in which city lawyer Hassan Male Mabirizi challenges the majority decision of the Court of Appeal which led to the dismissal of his case against Buganda Land Board.
The judges include Justices Faith Mwondha, Ruby Apiyo Aweri, Richard Buteera, Paul Mugamba and Lilian Tibatemwa Ekirikubinza.
Mabirizi argues that while the Appellant Court was meant to decide on his appeal from High Court on whether Kabaka of Buganda should avail Mabirizi with all details for Buganda Land Board Bank Accounts; they ended up discussing the merits of the case before another court.
He also accuses the court of appeal justices of failure to deliver their judgments with in the mandatory set 60 days without giving any reason.
The two sides in this matter where given deadlines in which they have to finalize with their written submissions.
Mabirizi was ordered to file his written submissions on 10th March 2020 while Buganda Land Board was ordered to file their defence not later than 18th March 2020.
The hearing of this matter will commence on 9th April before the panel.
This appeal arises from a case that was dismissed by High court in which Mabirizi challenged the levying of registration fees for occupants on Kingdom land.
