Charles Ayiekho Takes Charge of Maroons Hot Seat
Charles Ayiekho Lukula “Mbuzi” has finally bounced back as the head coach for Uganda Premier League side, Maroons Football Club.
Ayiekho was confirmed by the club management as the replacement for Douglas Bamweyana who was relieved of his duties on Saturday after a string of unconvincing results.
The appointment of the CAF ‘A’ certified gaffer sees him shrug off competition from another candidate and former BUL FC head coach, Peter Onen who was also vying for the same job.
Ayiekho holds a vast experience in the league having previously managed Busoga United (Kirinnya Jinja SS by then) last year before parting ways citing unfavorable working conditions.
The new Maroon’s man has also managed Bunamwaya (now Vipers), Police, Nyamityobora, Soana (now Tooro United) and the Uganda U-23 national team (assistant coach to Richard Wasswa Bbosa) alongside Busoga United.
Adding to his CV as stints as a TV analyst for Uganda Premier League matches and also coaching Makerere University Business School (MUBS) in the University Football League and the Beach Soccer tournament.
Ayiekho’s main target is the uphill task of helping the Prison warders survive relegation as the club languishes in 14th position with 24 points from 25 matches.
He is expected to be unveiled today and will conduct his first training session with the players in the afternoon.
