NRM’s Niwamanya Takes Kabale University Guild

Godfrey Niwamanya of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has won the hotly contested Kabale University guild election, defeating Henry Mbonimpa of People Power.

The polls conducted Saturday at the Kikungiri Hill campus were largely peaceful.

The university electoral commission chairperson Samuel Tayebwa in the evening declared Godfrey Niwamanya as the winner, having polled 831 votes against Mbonimpa’s 670.

Mbonimpa said later that the exercise was marred with voter bribery by his opponent.

Charles Sendegeya, the Kabale university Dean of Students says however, that the elections were free and fair as there were no cases of violence reported.
