Businessman Dodovico Finally Out on Bail

On Wednesday, Makindye Grade One Magistrate Prossy Katishabe granted bail to city businessman Dodovico Mwanje and 17 others who are accused of unlawfully demolishing St Peters Church in Ndeeba

The magistrate ruled yesterday that the accused had fulfilled all requirements for bail and presented substantial sureties.

In the ruling which was delivered via video conferencing, the applicants were ordered to pay 2Million shillings cash each, while their sureties were ordered to sign a non cash bond of 100 million shillings each

On top of that the applicants were ordered to deposit all their passports and National identity cards to court before being released from Kitalya Prison.

Prosecution informed court that investigations in the matter are still on going. The matter was adjourned to 16th September for mention.

On August 25th Dodovico voluntarily surrendered himself to the authorities as he appeared before Makindye Grade one Magistrate alongside Ivan Katongole a city planner at Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA)

The accused denied the charges and later on were remanded to prison

Prosecution contends that the group between March and August 2020 conspired with several senior police officers and demolished St Peter’s Church in Ndeeba which was a property of Church of Uganda.

The demolition of this church caused public outcry which called for involvement of the President who ordered for the arrest and prosecution of all government officials engaged in this.

He later after visiting the scene promised to work hand in hand with the Church of Uganda leadership to have the church rebuilt again in the same place.
