Museveni Warns Acholi Cultural Leaders Against Misleading Locals on Covid19

President Museveni on Tuesday issued a strong warning to Acholi cultural leaders who were misleading people that the COVID 19 pandemic is not a disease but an evil spirit.

To warn the traditional leaders, President Museveni got information from Ms Lindah Nabusayi Wamboka the presidential press secretary.

Nabusayi, quoting reports from Northern Uganda, told the president that the cultural leaders had appeared on a local radio station spreading false information that COVID19 isn’t a scientific disease.

Museveni in response warned the cultural leaders to desist from this, adding that he wouldn’t want to take an alternative of throwing them in jail.

“The Acholi cultural leaders, you tell those leaders they should stop that. I don’t want to put in jail cultural leaders but they should be warned very clearly to stop that because when you try to oppose science, we shall go against you,” said Museveni.

“This is a disease it’s not a spirit. Nobody has right to say that. My Minister for Presidency will have to talk to Rwot Achana, the head of the Acholi groups.”

Meanwhile Museveni announced to the country that on Tuesday, a total of 176 cases were tested and 11 turned positive, taking the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 44.

All the 11 confirmed cases were children of Watoto choir.

Museveni applauded the quarantine process saying it blocked many who tested positive and could have gone into the public to infect the masses.

The 11 confirmed Watoto choir children were also under quarantine.

Out of 44 confirmed cases in the country, 39 were under quarantine.

On the issue of Judiciary and office of Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to be added on the list of public servants exempted to work, Museveni said, “I think they could work. They should be added on but only to receive new cases. You can have a few people like the registrars who go to office to receive new cases and record them.”

He however added that Court hearings are suspended to avoid overcrowding in the courtroom which could facilitate the further spread of COVID 19.

“Lodging new cases can continue but not hearing and adjudicating because that would involve too much movement,” he clarified.
