13 –Year-Old Orphan Donates Shs 50,000 to Gulu Covid-19 Task Force
Ogweng Nicholas Opiyo, a 13-year-old boy in Gulu on Friday surprised many people when he donated Shs 50,000 shillings to Gulu district Covid-19 task force.
Opiyo, an orphan, walked from Uyama Sub-county, about 10 km from Gulu town to bring the money.
The P6 pupil said he has always heard on Radio how the Coronavirus pandemic has ravaged the world and that he was touched on hearing how people were coming together to fight the disease by donating to the taskforce.
“I started laying bricks after we came back from school because of the lock down. So, after selling, I thought it was wise to share with the Task Force and also help in the fight.” Ogweng said.
He added, “I am happy that I have done something to fight Covid-19 in my district.’’
Gulu district RDC, Major Santos Okot Lapolo applauded the boy for his generous contribution and asked the rest of the residents to emulate him.
Gulu district Chairman, Martin Ojara Mapenduzi also appreciated every efforts and contribution coming from people adding that it has enabled the taskforce with some partners to contribute food to the needy people in and around Gulu town.
Mr. Mapenduzi cautioned people not to relax but to continue to adhere to the directives given by the President and the Health Ministry.
