Students Loan Scheme Application Deadline Extended Again

The Higher Education Students’ Financing Board (HESFB) has once again extended the loan application deadline for students wishing to join institutions of higher learning.

This is the second time the deadline is being extended, initially set for August 31.

According to the statement issued by the HESFB, the deadline has been extended due to the fact that the Joint Admissions Board (JAB) is yet to conclude their national selection exercise for different Business Technical Vocational Education and Training (BTVET).

The Board also noted some of the public higher education institutions have not yet released the undergraduate admissions.

It therefore extended the deadline from August 31 to September 30, 2020 for undergraduate Degree applicants and October 15, 2020 for undergraduate Diploma.

“The Higher Education Students’ Financing Board (HESFB) therefore informs all intending student loan applicants that the deadline for application for the Student Loan Scheme has been extended from August 31 to September 30, 2020 for undergraduate Degree applicants and October 15, 2020 for undergraduate Diploma applicants,” the Board announced.

This comes at a time when all education institutions are closed for nearly 6 months in a bid to contain the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.

As part of the requirements to apply for a loan, students are required to have an admission to an accredited programme from the approved universities and other tertiary institutions.

Besides O’level and A’level certificates, applicants are also required to get a letter from their former schools indicating they had challenges paying school fees.

However, due to the current COVID-19 restrictions and the continued closure of schools, it is challenging for applicants to go to their former schools and also access those responsible for singing the application forms.
