William Ruto Jets In for Makerere African Studies Project

Kenyan Vice President, William Somei Ruto is in Uganda for the official groundbreaking of the African Studies Institute founded in his names.

Ruto and his delegation arrived at Entebbe International Airport on Friday evening and was welcomed by the outgoing Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Frank Tumwebaze, who is now the Gender Minister designate.

A statement released by Makerere University says the laying of the foundation for William S. Ruto Institute of African Studies is taking place today Saturday at the university.

“Makerere University will on Saturday, 21st December 2019 host His Excellency the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya – William Samoei Arap Ruto as Chief Guest at the ceremony to lay the foundation stone for the William S. Ruto Institute of African Studies,” said part of the statement.

The Institute has six core goals including; drawing on the core strengths of diversity of disciplines and experience to develop and refine methodologies for the study of Africa and develop innovative approaches to teaching and learning about Africa.

Other goals are collaborating with similar Institutes in Africa and globally to deepen the understanding of Africa in all its complexity and evolve common perspectives on global issues. Strengthening relationships between academic and indigenous intellectuals as the basis for reclaiming indigenous knowledge, and integrate this into local communities.
