Budadiri Primary Election Loser Sues NRM

The loser of the recently concluded National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries in Budadiri East Constituency, in Sironko District, Julius Muntu Nakiyi has dragged the party and the winner to High Court over alleged election mismanagement.

Through his lawyers of Galisoya & Compay Advocates, Nakiyi asked Court to put a permanent injunction and order the ruling party to cancel the purported victory of Vincent Woboya.

Woboya the incumbent defeated Nakiyi in a tight race which he (Nakiyi) says was marred with irregularities.

“The applicant emerged winner with 24118 votes although the 1st respondent official (NRM) illegally announced the 2nd respondent (Woboya) as the winner,” reads part of the Suit that was obtained by the Chimpreports.

Nakiyi claims the results were falsified by the two respondents (NRM and Woboya) and a one Wilson Wambaka.

He now wants the Court to immediately order NRM not to take further step before his issue is settled.

This comes at the time when NRM set up a 20-member election tribunal which is supposed to handle all such grievances but Nakiyi in what appears as undermining it, went straight to High Court.

Meanwhile, the tribunal which received 455 petitions has summoned 17 NRM Districts registrars to answer cases which were reported against them.

Among these cases are; altering election results, altering declaration forms, accepting bribe, intimidating and conniving with some candidates to win others maliciously.

The summoned registrars are from different districts of Mbale, Tororo, Jinja, Gulu, Kanungu, Lira and Kyankwanzi.

Others are; Namutumba, Kaliro, Buyende, Mayuge, Kakumiro, Kyenjojo and Ssembabule.
