Jinja Police Stops Radio Station from Hosting DP’s Nobert Mao

Police in Jinja has warned the management of Victoria FM against hosting DP President and presidential hopeful Nobert Mao.

In a letter from Kiira Regional Police headquarters signed by SSP Dauda Higira, the RPC Kiira Central to the station’s manager, the police denied the station’s request to host Mao.

The station was scheduled to host Mao on Sunday 2nd August 2020 and it had written a notification letter to the Police on 29th July 2020.

“This office on behalf of District Security Committee (DSC) notifies you that your request is not honoured due to the following reasons as per today’s resolutions passed by District Security Committee in a meeting held on 31st July 2020 at acting RDCs office,” said Higira in a letter to the station’s manager.

Although, the station’s manager in a letter to the police ha said that the guest (Mao) is a party president of the Democratic Party (DP) who would come to address the public on the current political affairs, the police replied that this “contradicts the revised electoral roadmap for 2020/21 elections which has not allowed campaigns yet.”

“The request for security has not been answered because the time of hosting him (Mao) conflicts with COVID-19 guidelines of implementing curfew. Therefore, we are avoiding to over stretch the security personnel,” SSP Higira added.

ChimpReports has learnt that the talk show would begin at 9pm and end at midnight.

Further, the station manager had said that the station has an alternative way of hosting Mao remotely.

“Upon receiving this communication, you are therefore advised to reapply for confirmation if he (Mao) is to use the suggested alternative (zoom),” Higira concluded.

When ChimpReports contacted DP presidential press secretary Fred Mwesigwa to know their next course of action, he said they will defy police orders.

“Under which law. For us we shall go there. We shall continue with the program unless the radio host is kicked out,” said Mwesigwa.
