Magamaga: UPDF Soldier Found Dead, Amputated

Police in Busoga region is investigating circumstances under which a UPDF soldier attached to the engineering brigade in Magamaga, Mayuge district died near a railway line in Magamaga town council.

According to Police, the soldier number RA 218630 R/CPL Joel Cherukut 35, attached to Magamaga Cantonment barrack (engineering dept) was found dead with his right arm cut off.

“His body was discovered on Sunday. We visited the scene yesterday and four soldiers attached to the cantonment have been arrested and detained to help in investigations following the mysterious circumstances surrounding the death of their colleague,” reads a statement from police.

In a statement from the territorial Police of Busoga, the deceased was seen in the company of his colleagues at Forest Bar and later on at Mama Kawala’s Bar in Magamaga town council on 30/11/19.

As investigations are under way, police is also looking into other possible causes of his death including accident.

“There’s a possibility that deceased could have died as a result of an accident caused by a train that passed at midnight because both the deceased’s legs and body were smashed, but we are not ruling out that it could have been stage managed,” said Police.

The body has been taken to City Mortuary Mulago Hospital for postmortem.
