Electoral Commission Prohibits Bobi Wine From Mass-Meetings Ahead Of His Countrywide Consultations
The Electoral Commission (EC)has urged the Kyadondo East Legislator Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine not to engage in or hold any public rallies and processions during his countrywide consultations ahead of 2021 elections.
EC chairman Justice Simon Byabakama said in a letter granting Bobi Wine permission to proceed with his consultations, that all meetings must be held in private places.
Bobi Wine had earlier written to EC, saying that he wants to consult the electorate about his presidency bid
The partly letter states.“We urge you to desist from holding rallies, campaigns and carrying out processions on public roads under the guise of conducting consultative meetings as this would totally be contrary to the objectives of consultations envisaged under section three of the Presidential Elections Act of 2005.”
People Power spokesperson, Joel Ssenyonyi said as law-abiding they are prepared to abide by the guidelines.
Ssenyonyi sad they would alert local authorities and police ahead of any activities to avoid disruptions.
Fred Enanga the police spokesperson says they will allow the People Power consultations for as long as they abide by the public order management act(POMA).
Enanga emphasized that they must inform the local authorities and police about the venue and number of people to attend their meetings.
