Archbishop Lwanga urges security forces to stop torturing innocent civilians
The Archbishop of Kampala Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga has condemned the increasing acts of brutality on civilians by police officers and other security agencies which has made people’s lives miserable in their own country.
“My brothers and sisters, the police officers stop torturing innocent civilians for nothing. you see those people you are torturing are tax payers and your salaries come from those people,”he said.
He made the remarks while giving his summon at Namugongo Martyrs Shrine over the weekend.
“Why should police beat up innocent people? people who have done nothing wrong for instance the students of makerere university such actions can cause hatred against the president and the government at large,”he noted.
Lwanga said that the excessive force used by police could lead to the widespread misunderstanding and hatred against the president and government leading to the outbreak chaos in the country hence lost of lives of innocent people.
He further advised girls who were lured into lucrative jobs abroad that they risk losing their lives and being sold like slaves.
“There is new form of slave trade where young girls are deceived and lured into lucrative jobs abroad some of them end up losing lives and body organs among others,”he said.
He also hailed the head of anticorruption unit in state house headed by Col.Edith Nakalema for the effort put in fighting corruption and land grabbing in the country.
“There is increasing cases of corruption in the country but madam Nakalema is doing a good job and she should continue doing that so I want thank her for the effort put in fighting corruption and land grabbing, as Catholics, religious leaders and other religions we fight against corruption and we don’t support it,”he said.
