Athletics: Team Uganda Flagged Off for World Half Marathon

A team of Eight athletes was on Wednesday 14th October flagged off at Copper Chimney Restaurant, Lugogo ahead of the World Half Marathon in Poland.

This year’s World Athletics Half Marathon Gdynia, is scheduled for this Saturday 17th October in the Northern Polish Baltic City, in Poland.

Fresh from setting a new 10,000m world record in Valencia – Spain, Joshua Cheptegei now leads team Uganda’s onslaught for top honors at the World Half Marathon Championships.

The team of Eight that departed Entebbe Airport aboard KML flight, compromised of; Men – Golden Spike 5000m champion and Meet record holder Jacob Kiplimo, Abel Chebet, Moses Kibet and coach Benjamin Njia.

The Women team boosts of 2018 Cardiff Commonwealth champion Juliet Chekwel, Doreen Chesang, Doreen Chemutai and Reachel Zena Chebet.

Coaches Benjamin Njia and Addy Ruiter will be in charge of the team.

Joshua Cheptegei, Stephen Kissa and coach Addy Ruiter will meanwhile join the team from Europe where they pitched training camp after the Valencia historical World record triumph.

Uganda last participated at the 2018 World Half Marathon in Valencia, Spain with the men’s team finishing 5th and women team 16th overall.
