Vipers edged Steven Bengo-coached Wakiso Giants to extend their unbeaten run to 12 games in the Startimes Uganda Premier League on Tuesday at St. Mary’s Kitende.

This was the first game for Steven Bengo who is now a caretaker in a coaching role after replacing sacked Kefa Kisala. The former midfielder stood the whole 90 minutes on the touchline as issued out commands.

Fahad Bayo scored the only goal as the leaders won 1-0 to go to 30 points.

The powerful forward, now on eight league goals, ran behind Wakiso defense after an over-top pass from Bobosi Byaruhanga to pounce home fromba tight angle at the half hour mark.

The Venoms could have won by a bigger margin after dominating proceedings from onset but did not convert their chances.

Bayo had a goal at his mercy twice, his drive went over the bar from Brian Kalumba’s cross and he later failed to fire past Yasin Mugabi after Lawrence Bukenya had lost possession in his own half.

Karim Watambala was also denied twice by Wakiso United goalkeeper Yasin Mugabi.

The Purple Sharks on the other hand were slow when going forward and failed to match Viper’s boys in the middle of the park.

Paul Willa blocked Vianne Ssekajugo’s strike, and the former Onduparaka fc striker had a goal disallowed for offside in stoppage time.

Referee William Oloya correctly disallowed Wakiso’s penalty appeal when Aziz Kayondo handled the ball in the area, but the ball had bounced off the defender’s ball which is a ball to hand.

Wakiso Giants who remain on 13 points will face Busoga United as Vipers take on URA Fc.
