NUP Lawyer, Former NRM, FDC Bigwigs Endorsed as Party Release Eastern Region Parliamentary Flag Bearers

City Lawyer affiliated to the National Unity Platform Party (NUP), Anthony Wameli, was among over 200 candidates who successfully scooped the party flag for Member of Parliament.

Wameli is among the lawyers, who are battling in Mbale High Court with the government, in a case where Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine, the NUP party president sued the Inspector General of Police, State Attorney and the entire Mbale Security for stopping his radio talk show at BCU FM on August 8.

He was given the NUP ticket to contest for the position of Member of Parliament for Namisindwa in the coming 2021 General elections.

NUP released the list of their MP flag bearers for eastern region a day after releasing the one of Central region.

John Baptist Nambeshe, the former National Resistance Movement (NRM) MP representing Manjiya County in Parliament was among the newly converted NUP bigwigs who won the ticket for the same electoral area.

According to the list, Nandunga Masibo the former Forum for Democratic (FDC) member, who is remembered for giving the incumbent woman MP of Mbale district, Connie Nakayenze Galiwango headache in the 2011 general elections was also given the flag to represent NUP on the position of Woman MP in the newly operationalised Mbale City.

The Elections Management Committee led by Mercy Walukamba will also revaluate candidates in 36 districts and Constituencies, according to the list.

Kaberamaido district is where the competition was so stiff to the extent that no candidate was selected in all the three Counties of; Kalaki, Okyero and Kaberamaido.

In Bugisu Subregion, the revaluation will be done to candidates who compete in Bulambuli District, Elgon County and Elgon North County in Bulambuli district; Bunya East, and Manafwa District Woman MP in Manafwa district; and Bungokho North, Industrial Division in Mbale district.
