COVID-19 Operation: Police Storm Bunga’s Popular Nomads Bar
Police detectives have raided the popular Nomads Bar in Bunga, arresting 49 revelers, Chimp Corps report.
The partiers and the bar owner are accused of flouting COVID-19 prevention guidelines.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigire said Kabalagala Police on Sunday night “carried out an operation on enforcing of Ministry of health guidelines in Bunga at Nomads Bar where 49 people including the owner of the bar Fred Kamau and his 8 managers were arrested.”
He said all the suspects are currently detained at Kabalagala police station.
Nomads Bar is a popular hangout for the middle class in the township known for its bustling nightlife.
The arrests came high on the heels of a major spike in COVID-19 infections across Kampala city.
The Health Ministry recently expressed “concern” over the “rapidly increasing cases in Kampala” since the lifting of the lockdown restrictions.
“This is because the community is not following the standard operating procedures that include; hand washing, proper use of face masks and social distancing whenever in public places like workplaces, arcades and public transport,” said the Ministry.
Earlier in the night, Police also stormed an apartment in Kiwatule, arresting seven partiers.
The suspects face charges of disobedience of lawful orders and also committing a negligent act likely to spread and infection of a disease (COVID-19.)
