Kadaga Meets Kampala, Wakiso NRM Delegates
The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga on Wednesday met the National Resistance Movement Party delegates from Kampala and Wakiso.
The delegates from the divisions of Kampala Central, Nakawa, Rubaga, Makindye, Kawempe and those from Nansana, Kira and Entebbe met Kadaga at Hotel Africana Kampala.
The Speaker thanked the delegates for supporting her candidature for the NRM 2nd National Vice Chairperson Female and promised to continue to deliver.
In the meeting, Kadaga rubbished the allegations that she blocked the procurement of vehicles and motorcycles for NRM leaders.
“I want to refute lies said by a certain candidate that I blocked the purchase of cars and motorcycles for the NRM leaders. I am struggling all the time for the rights of the people to get what is due to them. So, how can I be the one to block the cars?” she asked.
The Speaker explained that it is the financial constraint delaying the purchase of mobility facilities for NRM leaders.
“The issue of the cars is about funding. It was a commitment the Chairman of the party made but there has been a challenge of funding. The money saved by not meeting at Namboole could be used for buying the cars because it has been long overdue,” she said.
Kadaga enumerated her contributions during the years she has held the number 3 position in the ruling party.
“I have been active on the rights of the people. I started advocacy on human rights and as the first President of FIDA, we established the first legal aid clinic in Uganda to support ordinary people who cannot afford lawyers,” she said.
Adding: “I have spoken on matters education, health, infrastructure etc. I have been very vocal on the rights of fishing communities. Sometimes people misunderstand me and say I don’t like the government – far from the truth. It is because I like our government that I want us to do the right things.”
On corruption Kadaga said there are some corrupt leaders and she will not relent on telling them off even when they are in NRM.
