Ex-International Footballers Association Confirms New Leadership
The Ex International Footballers Association (EXIFA) is back on the scene with a new management Committee that will help to change lives and address issues of all former Uganda Cranes players.
The association which started way back in 1975 and declined in early 2000’s, revamps with an aim of bringing together all former footballers who donned Uganda Cranes colours and develop the game of football.
The new leadership Committee with Jackson Mayanja “Mia Mia” as it’s president was officially unveiled to the media at the Grand Imperial Hotel in Kampala on Tuesday.
Mayanja, currently a technical director for UPL side Kyetume FC, was Uganda’s top-scorer for the 1993 African Nations Cup qualifiers with six goals and won three Cecafa Cup titles with Uganda Cranes (1990, 1992, 1996).
“We have decided to create this association to unite all former National team players and solve all our challenges internally and as well reorganise ourselves so that the welfare of the former players is improved,” said EXIFA president Mayanja.
He added, “Many things happened in the past, but we want to start a new chapter with the football governing body, FUFA and bring them on board as well and help where needed.”
Mayanja will be deputized by George Ssimwogerere with Gibby Kalule (Secretariat), Sam Ssimbwa (Treasurer), Patrick Ntege (Organising Secretary), Dan Walusimbi (Project Manager), Baker Masiko and Majida Nantanda (Welfare) among the members on the new committee.
In the past, several Ex Internationals were at war with FUFA and ugly scenes transpired, notably in 2017 where some former National team players invaded FUFA House, Mengo to force their way into offices and eject Magogo from the seat.
In the process, a police officer ended up shooting himself on the left leg while some where arrested.
Mayanja however believes all that history will not repeat itself and members are now ready to make peace.
The association which will aim at the restoration of the Ex Internationals’ lost glory, is filled with a host of Ex Internationals that won the first CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup.
