NIRA Resumes Issuance of National IDs
The National Identification Registration Authority (NIRA) is set to resume nationwide distribution of National Identity cards as the Covid19 lock down measures slowly get lifted.
The distribution of IDs has been on hold since March.
NIRA said in a statement last week that the distribution process as well as the rest of its services are being gradually resumed.
“As part of the first phase of the process to reopen services, NIRA has commenced a National ID card issuance exercise in the three districts of Wakiso, Mukono and Jinja,” the authority said in a statement.
“This exercise that commenced on Monday 6th July 2020 will be done at the Sub-County level and will run for a period of 17 days in Wakiso and 13 days in Jinja and Mukono.
Wakiso, Mukono and Jinja according to NIRA, have the highest number of unissued National ID cards.
The lists of people whose cards are ready for issuance have since been shared with Local Councils 1 (LC 1) chairpersons to ensure only those whose cards are available visit the issuance centers at the respective Sub-County headquarters in the three districts.
Persons visiting the Issuance Centres have been encouraged to observe COVID19 prevention guidelines by wearing face masks, social distancing and washing.
