2021 Elections: NRM Devotee Big Eye Roots for People Power’s Bobi Wine
Embattled singer Ibrahim Mayanja aka Big Eye might be soon crossing from NRM to People Power. Big eye was one of the staunch NRM supporters and in 2011 and was among the artists the President moved with countrywide during his campaigns.
However, recently, Big Eye became vocal about the alleged Shs 270m that he never received as payment for his input. He has since threatened to sue the NRM over the money he says never got to his accounts as was agreed.
A month ago, he asked government to help him to pay a debt of Shs 400m for his house and also find a car that he had lost. His cry, however, wasn’t responded to and so he has decided to root for another political party.
Since the revised roadmap came out with tough restrictions on gatherings for the 2021 election campaigns, chances are that Big Eye won’t be making money from campaigns like he did before. He is also contemplating supporting Bobi Wine in the next elections.
In a Facebook post he said, “no musician is safe ever since Hon Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine stood against Mr. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. Even us who support the NRM, we are not safe. A lot of unlawful things and unfair things are going to be done to disorganize this music industry, separate it and put it down.”
He goes on to tell musicians to support Bobi Wine, “fellow musicians, open your eyes widely. We have even started seeing some media houses/entertainment programs being paid to expose musicians with an aim of spoiling our image.”
“If I am not mistaken, we might even be the reason why this country is still in lockdown so that we don’t do any shows to earn. May be we better stand with Hon Robert Kyagulanyi who will understand our pain,” he added.
It remains to be seen whether Big Eye will shift his support to People Power or find his way back ‘home’.
