Tororo Cement drags businessman to court over shs1bn debt

Ali Kakooza, a Kampala businessman has been dragged to court by Tororo Cement Limited over a one billion shillings debt.

According to documents before the Commercial Division of the High Court in Kampala, Kakooza who trades as United Star Enterprises entered into an agreement with Tororo Cement to have him supplied with building materials and paid some of the money but defaulted on the balance.

“Between January and December 2019, the plaintiff supplied to the defendant various goods and materials. The defendant had earlier mortgaged to the plaintiff land comprised in Busiro Block no.468 plot no.15 land at Kluluga security for the goods to be advanced to the defendant,” the court documents say.

An affidavit sworn by Krishnendu Banerjee, a senior manager in charge of Sales and Marketing at Tororo Cement Limited, the businessman breached the agreement signed between him and the company leading to the shs1 billion debt.

“The defendant has since been requested to pay the outstanding balance but he has refused to do so.”

The Kampala businessman has been asked by court to defend himself in the matter.
