Police Block Bobi Wine from Leaving Home

Police have deployed heavily outside the residence of Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi Bobi Wine to prevent him from carrying on with his planned Independence Day music concert.

According to the MP, police camped at his home in Magere, since late last night.

The singer-turned politician had scheduled to hold concerts dubbed “Osobola” starting today at his own One Love Beach in Busabala and later in Masaka.

He revealed through social media that the music venue in Busabala has also been sealed off by police.

“Since 11:00pm, police and military surrounded my home and my private property, One Love Beach Busabala, in yet another move to place me under house arrest and block our Independence Day music concert,” he said.

Bobi Wine last performed on New Year’s Eve, at the annual Enkuuka celebrations at Lubiri in Mengo.

According to the MP, police have so far blocked 156 of his concerts

“I can’t perform in my own country,” he said.

“Gen. Museveni, so afraid of a critical microphone is doing everything to silence it. He recently registered himself as a musician in another desperate attempt to counter us. Has been attending concerts of his praise singers. All we say, let there be fairness! This is our country.”

Police however, say they did not clear Bobi Wine concert today, even though he had sought clearance days earlier, promising to follow their guidance.

Police spokesman Fred Enanga said that the Director of Operations AIGP Asuman Mugyenyi by Monday has not yet confirmed whether the venues where Bobi Wine plans to hold his concerts are fit.

“We are yet to get information from the director as regards to his concert, we shall be informing you in due course,” he said.

Police accuse the singer of stirring up the crowds at his concerts with political messages.
