Kabaka Mutebi Extends Lukiiko’s Tenure

The Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi ii has renewed the term of office for Members of Buganda Lukiiko (Buganda’s Legislative Assembly)

The speaker of this Lukiiko remains Hon Patrick Luwaga Mugumbule, deputised by Hon Ahmed Lwasa.

In a letter dated 26th May 2020 signed by Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga, the Kabaka also filled vacant posts which were created by death and retiring of some members.

The Kabaka’s cabinet led by the Katikiro also sits in this Lukiiko which comprises of 208 members.

Other members include Masaza (County) chiefs, Technocrats, Kabaka’s representatives from Buganda and counties, Youth representatives, Representatives of various professions and other communities of Buganda.

Kabaka’s subjects from the diaspora also sit in the Lukiiko.

Mayiga says the Kabaka appreciated the service of the Lukiiko in its previous term.

For the swearing in ceremony, the Katikkiro said this will be communicated to them by the minster in charge.

The Lukiiko has a duty of formulating bi-laws among other administrative functions.
