Teacher Donates Salary to Support Covid19 Fight

Last week, 47-year-old Gad Masiko, a tutor of a teachers’ college in Mbarara made a decision to donate his salary to the National COVID-19 Task force.

Masiko, who teaches at Bishop Stuart Primary Teachers College in Mbarara, contributed his March salary of 850,000 shillings as support towards the vulnerable people during the COVID-19 response.

Speaking to our report, Masiko said he decided to forfeit the March salary to help some Ugandans that are suffering due to the Covid19 lockdown.

The gesture he says, was also an appreciation to the Government of Uganda which paid his school fees when he was studying for a diploma in education and later on his degree and Masters courses.

“I saw it important to give back to the people of Uganda as a reward even though it’s not much because it was the government of Uganda that has paid for my education. I encourage other civil servants to come out and also support the government in the fight against this pandemic because the people we are helping the ones that employ us.  If they are not there, we don’t have jobs” said Masiko.
