Magogo: Those Against Proposed Reforms are Simply Ignorant

Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) president, Eng Moses Magogo Hashim believes that whoever disagrees with the proposed reforms are not well informed about the situation.

Two weeks ago, FUFA Executive Committee proposed new reforms aiming at reduction of the number of clubs both in the StarTimes Uganda premier league and the FUFA big league effective 2021/2022 season.

According to Magogo, the reforms are meant to enhance the quality of clubs, increase sporting competition, improve service delivery by organizers, create better clubs and league brands on top of increasing revenues for the clubs and the league.

While speaking at his weekly Sports talk show on FUFA FM, the CAF Executive Committee member sounded bitter at the people who had bitter reactions on the reforms which he said are subject to discussion by the stakeholders.

“I have heard a lot from many critics who are not informed about the proposed reforms and are reacting anyhow. The executive proposed the idea which will be discussed by all stakeholders of football so I don’t know why there is an uproar,” said Magogo.

Magogo added, “We want a professional league having 28 clubs of which 12 will play in the top flight, 16 in the second league and 12 in the reserve league and all players will be allowed to feature in all of the leagues and we think this will make players more competitive through the many games.”

The FUFA boss attached the idea of having a revamped league to Tooro United’s woes where players wrote to the Federation questioning the club’s ownership which he thinks can’t make a professional league.

“You have a League team like Tooro United where players write to us asking about its ownership and delayed salary payments, and you think that’s a professional League? They can’t even assemble a junior team with branded jerseys so we can’t tolerate such,” The FUFA president insisted.

This comes after different sports pundits have shown their disagreement with the proposed reforms arguing that FUFA is imposing selfish proposals on the clubs who are the number one football stakeholders.

Among them is the Proline Football Club Director Mujib Kasule, Vipers SC 5% shareholder Harouna Kyobe and most recently, the Uganda Cranes captain Dennis Onyango Masinde.
