Gov’t Needs Shs 284Billion to Fight Covid19

Government has tabled before parliament a supplementary budget worth 284 billion shillings to cater for mitigation for the COVID -19 pandemic.

The supplementary budget request was tabled before parliament by the minister of finance Matia Kashaija during the parliament sitting chaired by the speaker of parliament Rebecca Kadaga.

The supplementary budget request to deal with the Coronavirus indicates that security will get 81 billion shillings, 62 billion shillings for the health sector, 59 billion shillings for disaster management, 36 billion for local governments, KCCA to get 30 billion shillings and 14 billion shillings for ICT sector.

The speaker sent the request to the parliamentary budget committee for perusal and report to parliament.

However, Budadiri west member of parliament Nandala Mafabi said that some of the money requested should have been drawn from Vote 130 which collects debt repayment since all debt repayment was suspended due to coronavirus outbreak
