Curfew: Kabale Locals Stone Army Officers

Locals in Kabale last week reportedly stoned UPDF soldiers who were deployed to enforce the ongoing nightly curfew.

The soldiers under the command of Corporal Geoffrey Mwesigwa, the detach commander of Ryakarimira town council in Rubaya sub county Kabale District were allegedly stoned after a group of angry locals organized themselves after being chased from bars.

This particular area has a considerably higher rate of army deployment since it close to the Rwandan border.

Canon Enock Kazooba, the Mayor Ryakarimira Town council speaking to our reporter warned the locals against playing around with the army, especially engaging them in a fight, saying if the army truck back, many could get hurt.

“How can you fight a soldier that was trained to fight, moreover with a gun? What if he fought back?” Kazooba said.

Lt. Col. Robert Nahamya, the commander of the 19th Battalion in Kabale said stubborn Ugandans like these would be disciplined by caning until they heed to guidelines of the president.

“If you don’t cane those stubborn people, will you cane those kneeling in church? Nahamya said.
