Condolences Pour in for Barbra Alimadi; Police Says She Died in Pain

Police have said they will be looking into the sudden death of Ms Barbra Alimadi, the International Affairs Secretary of the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT)

Alimadi, 48, was found dead in her house in Kiwatule by a neighbour, who called police.

This was at around 10pm last night according to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman Patrick Onyango.

Onyango says Police rushed to the scene, examined the area and recorded statements from the witnesses.

The police spokesman adds that their initial findings indicated that Ms Alimadi might have been in pain when she died.

“The deceased was found lying straight on her stomach with straight legs. The lying body shows she could have been in pain during her last breath,” Onyango said.

“There is no sign of struggle or injuries on the body.”

The deceased, police says, lived alone in her own house.

The body was taken to City mortuary Mulago for post-mortem as investigations continue.

Meanwhile condolences have been trickling in on Tuesday morning for the fallen political activist.

Democracy Party President Norbert Mao said he was saddened by the loss of Barbara.

“It hit us like a thunderbolt. I send sincere condolences to her family and also Mugisha Muntu, (the head of ANT) for a loss so colossal. The sudden loss of a person we knew, appreciated & admired is hard to accept. But we know she rests in the arms of our Lord,” he said.

Gen Muntu was yet to issue a statement on the matter by publication of this story.  This morning he tweeted out a picture of the deceased with no comments on it.

Activist Sarah Bireete tweeted, “While we come to understand from an early age that death is just a part of life, it doesn’t make losing a loved one any less painful. Death is hard. It is even harder when it comes unexpectedly. News about sudden passing of (Alimadi) is extremely saddening. Eternal repose Barbra”
