Girls Basketball final

St Mary’s Kitende 58-51 St Noa Girls

St Mary’s Kitende dethroned St Noa Girls Secondary School, Zana as Champions of Wakiso District/regional basketball champions.

The epic final between the two Giants saw SMAK walk away bragging rights in the Entebbe road derby during a final played at Wakisha Research Institute playground on Saturday.

St Mary’s Kitende came from three quarters down to overcome 2019 Champions St Noa 58-51 to win the Basketball championship.

St. Noa Girls which dominated proceedings had won the first three quarters 10-5, 19-12 and 38-33 before St Mary’s Kitende made a stunning comeback in the final quarter to post a 58-51 win.

Fildausi Namulema, Mary Amaniyo and Pauline Nakamanya put up a sublime performance on the evening to inspire SMAK over a resilient St Noa who had Generous Grant, Mary Najjuma and Vannessa Grace Nakalembe as outstanding figures in their journey to the final.

In the semi-final, St Mary’s Kitende registered a slim and hard fought for 41-40 win against arch rivals Buddo SS to storm the final while St Noa had ejected Exodus College 36-24 in the other semifinal clash.

The final between St Mary’s Kitende and St Noa Girls was also a repeat of last year’s final that happened at the same venue but ended up in St Noa’s favor.

The 2020 Wakiso District/Regional qualifiers attracted 11 teams with the top five Schools qualifying for the National Championship to be held at Layibi College School and Sacred Heart in Gulu.
