Inaugural Magogo Cup Takes Shape

The 2020 Magogo Cup inaugural tournament which was officially launched in the weekend in the Eastern parts of Uganda is scheduled to be held in Jinja.

The maiden edition extended to the people of Budiope East, was organised by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) President Eng Moses Hashim Magogo.

The tournament has attracted a total of 16 confirmed teams based on parishes and will be played on a home and away basis.

Magogo, insists that the initiative will bring the people of Budiope East together and create unity.

“I thank the people of Budiope East for embracing this tournament. We expect an entertaining tournament through which we shall create unity as this will bring people from different parishes together. It’s the first of its kind but we expect to have more editions each year coming,” Magogo remarked during his speech at the official launch.

Each team that confirmed participation received a full set of jerseys and two balls to facilitate their preparations while referees that successfully went through the FUFA Licensing Coaching courses will handle the coaching roles of the teams.

Referees selected to officiate these matches were also given free equipment as the play grounds picked to host the games were all given metallic goal posts and nets.

The winner for the maiden championship will take home Shs. 4 million, Gold medals and a Bull while the second will bag Shs. 2 million and silver medals.

The second runners up will part with Shs.1 million and Bronze medals while semifinalists will grab a token of Shs. 500,000 each.

Other cash prizes are Shs. 250,000 for the quarter-finalists while the Most Valuable Player (MVP), top scorer, best goalkeeper, and the most disciplined team will each walk away with Shs. 500K.

The tournament was meant to run from the weekend to 30th May 2020 but was postponed until the climax of the directives put up by president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to curb the pandemic COVID 19.
