SWIMMING: Uganda’s Kirabo Namutebi Scoops 5 Medals in Botswana

Kirabo Namutebi put up an outstanding performance in the just concluded CANA Zone IV Swimming Championship. Kirabo bagged five medals in the swimming championship held in Gaborone, Botswana from 20 to 23 February, 2020.

Kirabo, who won the 2019 female swimmer of the year, won two gold medals in 100m and 50m freestyle before adding on two silvers from 50m Breaststroke style and 50m Butterfly style and a bronze in 50m backstroke.

Namutebi edged her performance for last year’s same championship when she won two gold medals, one Silver and two bronze medals in Namibia.

Another junior swimmer Avice Meya, also represented well in the 200m butterfly style winning bronze.

The Uganda Swimming Federation president and newly appointed National Council of Sports Chairman Dr Donald Rukare put up a brilliant performance in the Masters swimmers winning silver in 50 Breast stroke style.

Both Eng. Peter Ssebanakitta and Joseph Kabogoza won Silver in the 100 Breast and 50 Butterfly style respectively in the Masters swimmers for team Uganda.

Uganda finished in the 11th position on the medal tally having scooped a total of six medals in total.

Zimbabwe was the overall winner with 85 medals in total ahead of Namibia and Botswana that came 2nd and 3rd with 63 and 42 medals respectively.
