Police Warns on Protests Over Relief Food

Police has warned some members of the public to desist from tarnishing to image of government due to delays in delivery of Covid19 relief food items.

Police says some people have become impatient and unable to wait for authorities to deliver food to them as planned by the National Covid19 Task force, and that they are using this to taint the image of government and other stakeholders involved in the fight against Covid19.

Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga says some individuals have gone ahead to incite others to demonstrate against the delays.

For instance, he noted that in Wakiso, locals at Ntuyani, Nsimbi zone were incited by some local leaders claiming that their children were starving.

Some of them he says were arrested, cautioned but later released on police bond.

“The public should know that there is a criteria being followed, and in areas which had challenges like Namungoona as of two days’ back, have been covered. In places like Kazo Angola, the residents are now peaceful, so even those who have not received, the LC 1 had meetings recently and will be able to address concerns,” Enanga said

Similarly, in Tororo at Malaba town council, a group of about 70 residents turned rowdy over relief food given by the district taskforce.

Reports indicate that the group attempted to beat the mayor a one Kalamani Asaf who survived by fleeing the scene.
