Manchester United, Arsenal And Chelsea Transfer Boost As Dries Mertens Edges Closer To Napoli Exit

Mertens will be able to move for free this summer as his contract with Napoli expires at the end of the season and he could be set for a move to the Premier League.

Chelsea reportedly had a bid for Mertens rejected in the January transfer window as manager Frank Lampard searched for a centre forward to provide cover and competition for Tammy Abraham.

Manchester United and Arsenal also enquired for the 32 year old Belgium striker, according to the Daily mail.

Mertens was reportedly not keen on a move to Chelsea in January as he wanted to stay at Napoli and break the club’s scoring record, currently held by Marek Hamsik.

He is currently three short of breaking Hamsik’s club record of 121 goals and Frank Lampard as well as Chelsea will no doubt be willing him to eclipse that mark so he can move on in the summer.

Mertens has also long been linked with Manchester United, who like Chelsea were also seeking more fire power in the January transfer window before signing Odion Ighalo onloan or the rest of the campaign.

Arsenal will be on the look-out for cut-price options as they continue to manage their transfer strategy on a budget.
