DP Youths Blame Conflicts on Elders as Mao Issues Executive Order

The youth wing of the opposition Democratic Party UYD has blamed the ongoing internal party conflicts on DP senior members especially those in Parliament who oppose the leadership of party President Nobert Mao.

The DP Parliamentary caucus headed by Kalungu West legislator Hon Gonzaga Sewungu has repeatedly challenged Mao’s leadership and his deputy Fred Mukasa Mbidde claiming the two connive with President Museveni and the NRM Government.

The conflicts attempted the party to hold an emergency meeting on Thursday last week to resolve their differences but failed to reach a common ground.

DP Parliamentary caucus includes members such as Busiro East legislator Medard Lubega Segona, Masaka municipality MP Mathias Mpuuga, Butambala county MP Muwanga Kivumbi, Nakaseke South legislator Lutamaguzi Semakula, senior leaders such as DP national organizing secretary Sulaiman Kidandala, Florence Namayanja among others.

Speaking to the press at party headquarters Tuesday, UYD President Christopher Okidi blamed DP Members of Parliament and other senior members that have vehemently opposed Mao’s rule.

“The elders of the party are the ones who are showing a very bad example because people who are disagreeing are people like Mpuuga, Ssegona, Kidandala, Lulume; very old people who we expected that they understand what democracy is,” said Okidi.

He added that DP’s problem is too much democracy.

“In DP, you will never hear of disciplinary procedures wher as other political organizations like the FDC once you disagree they show you the exit. In DP you disagree and still remain. But what is very sad is that disagreement is coming from the elders of the party.”

“These are the people who actually should be leading change in Uganda. But someone (Bobi Wine) leaves music and comes and is now the person leading the change yet these guys have been there.”

Meanwhile, Party President has since issued an Executive Order and summoned yet another emergency meeting.

The Executive Order which Mao issued on February 9th 2020 restrains DP national organising secretary Sulaiman Kidandala from issuing registration forms even though it is his legal duty.

In a letter addressed to all National Executive Committee (NEC) members, Mao summoned an “extraordinary NEC meeting” to be held on 14th February 2020.

Last week on Thursday 6th February 2020, Mao and other senior members of the party who oppose his rule held an emergency closed door meeting but failed to reach a common ground.

In the Executive Order seen by ChimpReports, Mao says “The only authentic materials for registration of members and the declaration of returns of branch elections are those issued by the party headquarters,” the statement read.

“All branch and sub branch leaders are required to abide by the decisions of National Executive Committee and to disregard the green forms that lack the party seal. These counterfeit forms are being printed and distributed by the National Organizing Secretary alongside a handful of party officials without official authorization.”
