UPL: URA Inflicts Third Loss of the Season Upon Vipers

URA FC 3-1 Vipers SC

Saidi Kyeyune, Daniel Isiagi and Cromwell Rwothomio strikes were enough to bring Vipers to a 3-1 heaviest defeat at the Arena of Visions in Bombo as URA bossed with maximum points.

The epic clash which put Vipers’ title hopes at a standstill was played on Friday in Bombo, however, forward Fahad Bayo halted his goalless streak through, scoring the only goal for the table leaders.

With 14 minutes into the game, Michael Birungi set up Kyeyune who pocked home past Vipers’ custodian Fabien Mutombora.

Three minutes later, Joachim Ojera released Daniel Isiagi who made no mistake but to shoot far from the Burundian import Mutombora to see the Venoms trailing at halftime by two goals.

Five minutes after the restart, Huudu Mulikyi brought down onrushing Milton Karisa in box and the centre referee Semere Ashadu awarded the guests a penalty kick.

Fahad Bayo rose on the occasion and calmly converted the resultant spot kick to reduce on the Venoms’ deficit.

URA was also awarded a penalty kick advantage when right back Paul Willa made a handball in the forbidden area, 70 minutes off Birungi’s delivery.

Mutombora, nevertheless, was heroic to deny Rwothomio from 12 yards keeping Vipers’ hopes of coming back in the game alive.

However, it was not a done deal when Rwothomio put his name on the score sheet with a far post header past Vipers’ custodian Mutombora restoring URA’s two goal lead.

The defeat for Vipers was their third in the 2019-2020 season after losses to KCCA and SC Villa on the road and at home respectively.  It was Fred Kajoba’s first defeat since taking over the coaching role from Edward Golola.

Despite the defeat, Vipers remained on top with 50 points; five better of second placed KCCA FC which has a game in hand.

They will focus on the next league match against Maroons at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende slated for Wednesday next week.

For URA FC, they now count 37 points placed in the 4th position after 23 games and will visit Express FC next week on Tuesday at Kavumba.
