FIFA U17 WWC: 25 Players Summoned For Tanzania Tie, Injured Nalukenge Included
Uganda U-17 women football team head coach Khalifa Ayub has summoned a provisional squad of 25 players including the injured Nalukenge to begin preparations for their FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Qualifier game against Tanzania.
Uganda will play against Tanzania in their FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Qualifier first leg on March 1 2020 in Dar es Salaam before a return leg two weeks after.
Among the summoned players is Kawempe Muslim SS Ladies team injured Skipper and FUFA’s reigning Most Valuable player Juliet Nalukenge.
Nalukenge who is under the Pro Zone management has been injured for the last two weeks and also missed her team’s slim 0-1 away win against Kampala Queens on Sunday in the FUFA Women Super League.
However, the lethal forward played a pivotal role as Uganda eliminated Ethiopia in the first round; hence her summoning may not be by mistake despite being injured.
Three new faces including Shamira Nalugya, Grace Aluka and Latifa Nakasi have been added to the camp.
Five players have been dropped from those who eliminated Ethiopia and these include immaculate Odulu, Brenda Nakayenga, Esther Adokole, Zaituni Namaganda and Mercy Amoding.
Uganda beat Ethiopia 5-1 on aggregate in the preliminary round while Tanzania defeated Burundi 6-1 after two legs.
The winner on aggregate between Uganda and Tanzania will face Cameroon or Sao Tome and Principe and the eventual winner will qualify for the 2020 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup to be held in India in November.
The team will kick off preparations with none residential training at the StarTimes Stadium, Luzira prisons, and Kawempe Muslim SS playgrounds.
The team will reside at the FUFA Hotel in Kisaasi during the residential camp due to start this Friday 14th February.
