Musician Kenzo headlines 2020 Singleton Golf Qualifiers in Entebbe
The 2020 Singleton Golf Challenge Series officially teed off with the qualification round at the par 71 lake side Entebbe Golf Club course on Saturday, 11th January.
Whereas 231 golfers braced the day long sunny conditions under the medal format of play over 18 holes, Bet Award winner Edrisa “Eddie Kenzo” Musuuza overwhelmed at the 19th hole experience where it was an all-white affair.
The Singleton Golf Challenge series have for the past three years created the best ambience at the famous 19th merry with splendid entertainment and eye catching theme nights.
Now, as the fourth edition teed off in style, Kenzo ran the show at hole 19 with an energetic and thrilling performance that left the guests yearning for more as he performed 9 songs including the blockbuster “Ssemyekoozo” hit.
His other songs included “Mbilo Mbilo”, “Solaye”, “Signal” among others.
On the field of play proper, 60 pairs qualified for round one action slated for February 8th 2020 at the East Africa’s oldest golfing facility in Entebbe.
Outstanding golfers during the qualification round:
Michael Alunga, handicap 1 toppled group A with 39 points. Handicap 6 golfer Morris Ongwech and Stephen Krich (handicap 7) returned 37 points apiece to jointly tie.
In group B men; Nicholas (handicap 16) won with 40 points. Joseph Kimani (handicap 14) took second position with 39 points on countback, ahead of Joseph Ggaliwango (handicap 10).
Group C:
Joseph Adrapi returned the best overall points during the qualification round.
The handicap 25 golfer scored 41 points ahead of Bruce Iijuka (handicap 26) and Jimmy Bengura (handicap 21) who both scored 40 points.
Ladies:
Mellon Kyomugisha, playing off handicap 8 excelled in group A with 39 points to earn accommodation for two at the Serena Hotel.
Handicap 16 golfers Lillian Koowe and Jackie Kamunyu were second and third with 37 and 36 points respectively.
In group B ladies, Dorren Mwesigye, handicap 25 out-scored the other golfers to win with 38 points and earn DSTV Premium package.
Faith Namala, handicap 29 finished with 36 points to take second position as Roda Tumusiime, handicap 22 was third with 35 points.
Side – bets:
Nearest to the pin:
Andrew Baguma nearly claimed the hole in hole prize (a car) as he witnessed his shot on par – 3 – hole number 2 miss by five inches before back spinning.
Baguma won the nearest to the pin prize staked by co-sponsors HTC.
Mellon Kyomugisha won the ladies’ nearest to the pin prize.
Longest Drive:
Samuel Opolot and the long hitting Irene Nakalembe came top in the longest drive contest on par – 5 – hole number 18.
The post qualification round party continued at Street Club through to the wee-hours of Sunday morning.
Uganda Breweries Limited head line the Singleton Golf Challenge series under the brand “Singleton”.
A total of 60 pairs sportingly qualified to round one. These will be joined by four other pairs that has three for the sponsors’ pick and the defending champions; Robert Busingye and Richard Lutwama.
The series will be played on a monthly basis up to grade finale slated for July 2020.
The overall champions will earn all expenses paid for return air tickets to watch the 2021 Dubai classics.
