Bobi Wine Operation: Police Speak Out on Injured Officer, Infant

Police has said it will continue to work professionally in the interest of the citizens and the country at large while dispersing violent crowds.

This was revealed on Wednesday in a statement released by Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman SP Patrick Onyango.

Onyango was responding to earlier reports on Monday that there was a minor in Kasangati who was critically injured by teargas.

Police engaged in running battles with crowds that had gathered for first consultation meeting organised by presidential aspirant Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) at Our Lady of good hope church in Gayaza.

Onyango says reports that the reports that came out claiming the baby was severely injured and others that it died were all false.

“Our investigation team immediately took interest in the matter and found out that the victim had non-life threatening injuries and had been discharged from hospital,” he said.

Meanwhile, Onyango also refuted reports that an officer in Charge of Kasangati police station was short at by a live bullet in the thigh, revealing that it was in fact a stray rubber bullet.

“ASP Andrew Angume was injured by a stray bullet while dispersing the violent crowds. The bullet was rubber and it was removed and he is recovering well, said police

 

“The public should know that we use non-lethal methods of crowd disposal. Our officers are mindful of close range attacks, and avoid mass tear-gasing,” he said.

“We are confident we will continue to work professionally and efficiently in the interest of our citizens and country at large,” he said
