Police Officer Commits Suicide in Ntungamo

A 34-year-old male Police officer attached to Ntungamo Police station last Wednesday turned his weapon on himself and took his own life, under unclear circumstances.

Officer number 54536, Police Constable Ben Langoya, had been working with the Field Force Unit at the station..

According to Ntungamo district police commander Damian Katwesiime, the incident was reported by the officer in charge of the Barracks at Ntungamo, Leah Draru.

Rwizi regional police spokesperson Samson Kasasira says the deceased was found in a sitting position, leaning against the wall with a gunshot wound on the head and a lot of blood on the floor.

He had a riffle SMG UG POL.56581525032540 resting on his chest with one bullet in the chamber and a magazine containing 20 bullets. One bullet lying on the floor and a cartridge were recovered.

Kasasira adds that the body was taken to Itojo hospital mortuary for examination and on thorough observation, it was noticed that the deceased is likely to have placed the gun muzzle in the mouth and shot himself.

He says that statements have been recorded from witnesses who include the deceased’s son and the neighbors who had the gun shot.
