BREAKING NEWS: Human Rights Commission Boss Med Kaggwa Faints in his Car
Med Kaggwa, the Chairperson of Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) has fainted, sending shockwaves at the human rights body.
Kaggwa lost consciousness in his official Land Cruiser brand car at Mulago roundabout in Kampala on Wednesday morning.
UHRC spokesperson, Florence Munyirwa was not readily available for comment as her known mobile phone number was switched off today morning.
It remains unclear if he was driving himself or chauffeured.
The vehicle had to be opened by breaking a window glass to get him out.
An official at UHRC says Kaggwa was rushed to Nakasero hospital in Kampala in critical condition.
Kaggwa also serves as Commissioner and Special Rapporteur on Prisons and Conditions of Detention of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights and a Commissioner of the OIC Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission.
The cause of Kaggwa’s fainting remains unclear.
Fainting is a temporary loss of consciousness due to insufficient supply of oxygen to the brain.
Many things can cause oxygen deprivation to the brain, including low blood pressure.
In his late sixties, Kaggwa holds a Master of Laws degree from National University of Ireland, a Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre, Uganda and a Bachelor of Laws degree from Makerere University, Uganda.
He is a legal practitioner with nearly 30 years in the promotion of constitutionalism, good governance, rule of law and respect for human rights.
He has also been a Member of Parliament in both the national and sub-regional Parliaments, a Member of the Constituent Assembly that drafted the current 1995 Constitution and a Commissioner of the Uganda Constitutional Commission.
Additionally, he has been Head of Department of Law at the Law Development Centre and held a Political Office as Minister in Charge of Political Affairs in the Office of the President.
He is married with 5 children.
