FDC Asks EC to Issue Election Roadmap

The opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party has said it is prepared for the 2021 elections despite the current crisis of COVID-19.

Speaking to reporters at the party headquarters in Kampala, the FDC President Patrick Amuriat Oboi said the party is ready to traverse the country even under the difficult conditions of COVID-19.

“2016 was an emphatic win and there should be no doubt in the minds of Ugandans of our capacity to traverse the country under difficult conditions. We are not new in the game and Mr Museveni knows that we are too clever for his tricks. So, the moment the whistle is blown, we will be traversing the entire country through our networks that are spread all over the country and we can assure Ugandans that the FDC is up to the task causing change in this country. We are prepared, we will be prepared, we will continue to refine our preparations and will be ready as FDC to offer one of the strongest challenges that Mr Museveni and his NRM have faced in the political history of this country,” said Amuriat.

Meanwhile, the FDC President called on the Electoral Commission to “stop hiding under lockdown measures” and issue an election roadmap.

“To the Justice Byabakama’s Electoral Commission, national elections is your mandate. You must issue a revised roadmap this week that will clear all speculations in the country. You must be guided by the Constitution and other electoral laws,” said Amuriat.

Recently at the handover of leadership of Interparty Organization for Dialogue (IPOD) from FDC to JEEMA, the NRM Secretary General Justine Kasule Lumumba talked of a “scientific election” if COVID-19 persists but it remains unclear how a scientific election can be conducted.

Currently, Uganda has a total of 457 COVID-19 confirmed cases and the number of new cases has lately been on the rise.
