NRM candidate unopposed at the home of NUP Deputy Principal and grass-root mobilizer Dr. Lina Zedriga

Ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer for the Arua District (Vura) woman Member of Parliament, Lillian Paparu Obiale is unopposed ahead of the 2021 general elections.

Paparu, a former program manager of Community Empowerment for Rural Development (CEFORD) and member West Nile Rural Development Agency (WENIRUDA) emerged winner in NRM primaries with 14,928 votes (61%) against competitors Diana Ayikoru (3,412 votes) and Immaculate Bako (3,303 votes).

Lillian Paparu Obiale is unopposed as a woman MP for Arua District.

However, by the end of yesterday’s parliamentary nominations, Paparu remained unopposed for the position, as no other party brought forward a candidate and none of her competitors chose to go independent.

This means that Paparu is already elected to parliament even before elections happen.

The irony of Paparu’s situation is that the area where she is unopposed is the home of the National Unity Platform Deputy Principal and grassroots mobilizer Dr. Lina Zedriga.

While unveiling Zedriga to the people at NUP offices in May, Bobi Wine said the experienced politician and activist in Zedriga will be charged with grassroots mobilization especially women.

In her own speech, Zedriga roared, saying she would not bring onboard just the women but the elite class as well.

Meanwhile, Zedriga is not a stranger to political failure in Vura, In 2016, she stood against Gabriel Ajedra Aridru for the Vurra County MP seat and lost.
