Mysterious Drones with Blinking Lights Swarm over Bobi Wine Residence

Unmanned aerial vehicles commonly known as drones on Thursday night hovered over the residence of National Unity Platform leader, Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine.

Bobi, who escaped from NUP offices on Wednesday during a joint security force raid, released a video showing the drones circling around his home in Magere, Wakiso District.

Authorities in the area said they don’t know who’s flying the drones.

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga was not readily available for comment on Friday morning.

“There are drones above my house,” said Bobi, who intends to stand for president in the 2021 general elections.

“Friends out there, you don’t have to worry. Apart from invading on my privacy, I am not worried about them,” said the Kyaddondo East lawmaker.

In the video released by Bobi, dogs could be heard in the background as a drone lingered right above his house.

One of the drones had blinking lights and wingspans. It remains to be established if it’s a surveillance drone.

In Uganda, drones require approval/authorization before use.

Applications for the use of drones are reviewed by the Office of the Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) and Special force command (SFC) for general security and Uganda Civil Aviation.

ChimpReports understands Bobi Wine is a subject of interest for the security forces which stormed his offices and carried away People Power attire which resemble the uniform of Uganda’s armed forces and promotional materials.

Enanga said the security operation was “Targeting all locations illegally manufacturing, supplying, distributing, selling and using uniforms and accoutrements whose ownership and patented designs was gazetted and an exclusive preserve of the armed forces.”

Dozens of vendors and traders involved in supplying these materials were this Thursday arrested by police and detained in different parts of Kampala.

Uganda’s armed forces last year vowed to prosecute people found in possession of military accessories, insignia, decoration and uniform – including the red beret used as a symbol of the opposition movement, People Power.

According to the Uganda Gazette of September 18, 2019, “members of the public are hereby informed that unless granted authority by a competent military authority it is prohibited to sell, offer, or expose for sale, wear or use any uniform so nearly resembling the uniform of the defence forces and likely to deceive the public.”

The People Power’s party uniform is a red shirt, black trousers and a red beret.

Bobi Wine rejected the military’s warning and vowed to continue using the Red Beret.
