Gulu University Launches Community Engagement Policy
Gulu University has launched a community engagement policy that is aimed at integrating teaching, learning and research with the community.
Professor George Ladaah Openjuru, the Gulu University Vice Chancellor said at the launch, that this Policy seeks to bridge the gap between the University and members of the community.
“Through the launch of this Policy, we are making it clear that we work with the community.” Said Professor Openjuru
“Gulu University is an engaged University and we are internationally known for community engagement in our ways of teaching.”
Under this policy Professor Openjuru said, the University will accept any professional in the community to come and do research so that their work is widely recognized.
Meanwhile, with support from partners, the University will set up a Community Engagement Radio and the University will use it for different purposes.
The Radio station will cover about 200km and will be used for health awareness, agricultural information, commercial adverts and others.
Professor Rosalba Aciro, the deputy academic Registrar and a lead researcher for the Policy said the Policy is formulated in the University’s vision and mission and endeavors to innovatively influence development through training, research, outreach and delivery of social services to the community.
