Kampala: CCTV Cameras Identify NDA Masqueraders

Kampala Metropolitan Police on Wednesday arrested a man and are looking for three others, who have been defrauding people in and around Wakiso District disguised as National Drug Authority officials.

It is said that the suspects have been using motor vehicle registration number UBG 334A to defraud attendants from different clinics and pharmacies around Wakiso District.

According to KMP spokesperson SP Patrick Onyango, Police were notified about the criminal acts and the team at the CCTV Command Center in Nateete were tasked to follow the said vehicle since July 27, 2020.

“Operators of CCTV cameras have been trailing them until 24/08/2020 when one suspect was arrested using a combination of forces of CCTV cameras, Traffic and Field Forces Unit,” he said.

In a statement, he said that the vehicle was also impounded at Kawempe.

Security has since released images of the suspects on the run for the public to identify the criminals.

“We are releasing this footage requesting the public to positively identify the three suspects who escaped arrest. In the video, there is a big man in necktie, a woman with face mask and a light-skinned lady who took off,” Onyango said.

The suspect in custody was identified as Orombo Dawson.

It is said that criminals use ladies to pretend to be National Drug Authority officials.

“We appeal to members of the public to be alert and report any person, who claims to be a National Drug Authority official to the nearest Police Station,” said police, adding that when they are carrying out their routine operations, National Drug Authority officials normally move with police officers dressed in their official uniforms.
