Kasese: 2 UPDF Soldiers Arrested for Killing Church Leader

Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) have arrested two of their own officers who are said to have shot and killed a Church leader in Kasese District.

The suspects were identified as Lt Talent Akampurira, the Patrol Squad Commander and Private Lokwapa Abraham.

The latter is said to have shot at close range and killed one Benon Musimenta, a minister at Kogere Parish of the South Rwenzori Diocese.

The patrol soldiers reportedly stopped Musimenta who was riding with his wife to the garden on their motorcycle.

Motorcycles are still forbidden from carrying passengers because of the Covid19 pandemic.

According to family members, Musimenta did stop as ordered by the patrol soldiers but one of them proceeded to shoot him in the chest, killing him instantly.

This incident happened yesterday Wednesday at around 6am in the morning.

His wife also sustained injuries as she fell in the tarmac.

UPDF spokesman Brig Richard Karemire condemned the incident and said the culprits would face the full stretch of the law.

“It was a very big mistake for the soldier to respond in such manner,” Karemire said in a statement.

“The military court will sit and they will be charged as investigations continue. Once again UPDF extends its sympathy and condolences to the bereaved family.”
