RDC Sakwa Insists on Resuming Work Despite Presidential Directive

Jinja Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Eric Joseph Sakwa, who was suspended by President Yoweri Museveni pending his trial, has expressed interest to return to his office this week.

Sakwa through his lawyers of Nyote and Company Advocates, has written to the Jinja District Internal Security Officer (DISO) Fred Musoke asking to be handed back his office as soon as possible or face legal repercussions.

“You are therefore given one day from the date hereof to have our client access his office. Should you fail to heed this missive, we are going to commence proceedings to arrest you for contempt of court and attachment of your property,” the lawyers threatened.

The lawyers argue that whereas Sakwa received an interdiction letter requiring him to hand over the office to the DISO, the latter had earlier on raided the office and taken control without the consent of their client.

They add that Sakwa went ahead and challenged the interdiction process which was later reversed by an interim order by the Jinja High Court.

The copy of this letter has been served to the Attorney General, Hajji Yunus Kakande the Secretary in the Office of the President and RDC Eric Sakwa the complainant.

Last week, a few days after Sakwa had been reinstated in office pending hearing of his application, President Museveni who is the appointing authority, ordered him to step down from office for two months so that court can conclude the matter in which Sakwa and two others are accused of Man Slaughter.
